- Karachi Kings have better balance in their squad both in batting as well as bowling and this gives them the edge
- Mohammad Amir is looking in good rhythm for Kings at the moment and he is likely to cause trouble for the Lahore Qalandars
- Lahore Qalandars have been inconsistent this season and this is the biggest pullback for the side
The competition is getting tight in the Pakistan Super League as we enter the last phase of the league games. The Lahore Qalandars would be taking on the Karachi Kings in the 23rd game of the season.
The Qalandars come into this game after an emphatic win. The season hasn’t been great for them so far and they are unlikely to make it to the playoffs. The Karachi Kings are also coming into this game with a win and will look to win this contest which shall open their chance of earning a berth in the playoffs.
The hosts Qalandars have suffered with consistency. While both their wins have been big ones showcasing the kind of strength they have in the squad, in most other games they have failed to play well as a unit. Karachi Kings on the other hand seem to have got over their poor form and shall be looking to win this one and improve their odds of making it to the next stage. After their last game’s win the side from Lahore isn’t likely to make it easy for the Kings.
It was an easy win for Sohail Akhtar’s side in the last game against the Quetta Gladiators. The skipper would have been excited with the kind of dominating show his side put up in the game. The season hasn’t been great for the side and it was just their second win in six games. Akhtar would be looking to take the positives from this game to the next one.
Fakhar Zaman played well in the last game and he would be looking to put up a good show at the start along with Chris Lynn. Mohammad Hafeez made a good contribution in the last game and shall look to carry his form. With Ben Dunk, Sohail Akhtar and Samit Patel in the middle order the side looks strong with its batting with a good hitter like Dane Vilas to follow in the line-up.
It was an excellent bowling show from the side that set up the win. Shaheen Afridi and Samit Patel bowled excellently with the new ball with the later picking 4 wickets for 5 runs in his four overs. Raza Farzan and Mohammad Hazeez also did well with the ball. Dilbar Hussain has had a great tournament so far and completes a good bowling attack for the side.
Chris Lynn, Ben Dunk and Samit Patel will be the three players that the side would rely upon in the next game.
Expected Playing XI:
Sohail Akhtar (c), Fakhar Zaman, Dane Vilas (wk), Mohammad Hafeez, Ben Dunk, Samit Patel, Chris Lynn, Shaheen Afridi, Salman Irshad, Dilbar Hussain, Raja Farzan
It was a wash out for Imad Wasim’s side in the last game against the Multan Sultans. But the skipper would have been happy to have seen the performance of his bowlers who had tied down the opponents when rain interrupted play. With Qalandars coming into this game after a big win Wasim would want his players to put in a strong performance and improve their position on the points table.
The side will be expecting a good show with the bat from Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam at the top. With Azam returning to form their batting line-up is looking strong at the moment. Alex Hales is also looking in great form which makes their batting line-up strong. With Iftikhar Ahmed and Chadwick Walton down the order the side possesses a very strong batting line-up for the game.
Mohammad Amir has looked in good form in the last couple of game and with his new ball partner Aamer Yamin bowling well they will look for early wickets with the new ball. Imad Wasim has had a great season so far with the ball. Mitchell McClenaghan who was expensive in the last game would look to bowl in the right areas in the next game.
Babar Azam, Alex Hales and Mohammad Amir are the players the side would look up to for good performances in the next game.
Expected Playing XI:
Imad Wasim (c), Mohammad Amir, Chadwick Walton (wk), Chris Jordan, Alex Hales, Mitchell McClenaghan, Babar Azam, Sharjeel Khan, Aamer Yamin, Iftikhar Ahmed, Umer Khan
In this season of the Pakistan Super League most teams have preferred to bowl first and chase the score. The pitches have been good and there has been no deterioration during the course of the game. Hence we expect the side winning the toss to invite the opponents to bat first here.
PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS
It has been a flat track at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore in most games so far where batsmen have been able to hit through the line easily. Fast bowlers have a small margin of error at this venue while the spinners have done well here in the tournament. It should be a high scoring game with powerful hitters of the ball on both sides.
The weather would be slightly overcast during the course of the game. We have seen several rain washouts at Lahore already. The mercury would be around the 18℃ when the game starts and there would be humidity of 65% and 20% precipitation during the game.
Lahore Qalandars played well in the last game but the side has been inconsistent for most of the season. Karachi Kings on the other hand have looked a better side in terms of form and consistency and this is likely to tilt the game in their favor.
Lahore Qalandars still have a chance in this game if their top order does well which hasn’t been the case this season and even through the side has tried different opening combinations things haven’t worked in their favor.
Karachi Kings haven’t lost in their last three games and have looked a more determined side since recovering from their two consecutive losses at the start of the season. This will make them favorites to win the next game.
