It is a shame that the 28th game of the Pakistan Super League between the Karachi Kings and the Islamabad United would be played in front of empty stands due to the threat from corona virus. It will be a do-or-die game for the Islamabad United as they must win here by a big margin to be in the hunt for the playoffs. The Kings on the other hand are coming into this game after a big win and shall look to repeat the same kind of show in the next game.
Karachi Kings had defeated the Islamabad United by a big margin in the earlier game of the season and the side will be looking make it two in two this season. They have their batsmen in good form and shall look for another entertaining performance from them. The Islamabad United on the other hand would put in all they have into the next game. It was a big win for Imad Wasim’s in the last game against the Lahore Qalandars which they ended up winning by 10 wickets. With this win the side has now moved to the second spot on the points table with nearly guaranteed spot in the playoffs. Wasim would look to carry on with the same momentum in the next game and secure a place in the playoffs.
Batting looks good with openers Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan in great form and they stitched an unbeaten 151 run stand in the last game. Alex Hales had done well this season and along with Iftikhar Ahmed and Chadwick Walton makes a very strong middle order for the side. Imad Wasim and Umaid Asif add further strength to the lower middle order for the side ahead of the next game.
Mohammad Amir is looking at his best and shall eye early wickets in company of skipper Imad Wasim. Umaid Asif has also bowled well and Chris Jordan has been improving with every passing game adding to the strength of their bowling attack. With Arshad Iqbal and Usama Mir in the attack they will look to trouble Islamabad United’s batting line-up.

Shadab Khan’s side has lot at stake as they take on the Karachi Kings in the next game. The side had lost is last two games including the last one against Multan Sultans by 9 wickets in what was a rain curtailed contest.
As they play their last league game they will have to win this one to stay in the hunt for a place in the playoffs. They had lost against the Kings earlier in the season as well and this will definitely create more pressure on the side.
They will need Luke Ronchi and Colin Munro to fire in the next game at the top as both these players haven’t really played to their potential. The middle order would also need good show from the likes of Colin Ingram, Shadab Khan and Asif Ali. In Rizwan Hussain and Amad Butt the side had two good players to finish the innings but their batsmen need to show consistency which they haven’t done so far in the season.
In terms of their bowling performance it has been a season where the side has had most of its frontline bowlers underperforming. Only Shadab Khan has stood out. Dale Steyn will need to lead the attack with the new ball in company of Akif Javed. Muhammad Musa and Rumman Raees also have gone for runs and they will need to contain in-form Karachi Kings’ batsmen.
Colin Ingram, Luke Ronchi and Shadab Khan would be the three players to watch out for Islamabad United in the next game.
Expected Playing XI:
Shadab Khan (c), Dale Steyn, Luke Ronchi (wk), Colin Ingram, Colin Munro, Asif Ali, Amad Butt, Rumman Raees, Muhammad Musa, Rizwan Hussain, Akif Javed
Five games have been played so far at Karachi this season and the side chasing the score has emerged victorious on four occasions. The pitches have been in complete favor of batsmen so far in the season. Hence the side that wins the toss would have little hesitation to bowl first on this surface.
PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS
The pitch here in Karachi has been as flat as a pancake. The ball has come on to the bat nicely and batsmen have been able to play on the up. We have seen big scores being put up and chased on this surface with ease where there is little assistance for the fast bowlers. The only way to contain a batting line-up is through quality spin bowling on this surface as there is assistance for the spinners.
It will be clear skies on the day of the game over Karachi and a typical late winter evening at the venue with 26℃ temperature expected when the game starts. Weatherman has also predicted 29% humidity and 0% precipitation for the day.
Karachi Kings are coming into this game after a big win. Their batsmen are in great form at the moment while Islamabad United’s bowling attack looks out of form. This will give the Karachi Kings edge in this game.
Islamabad United would be under great pressure having lost their last two games. In both these games they allowed the opposition to dominate them. A loss would bring an end to their run for the playoffs and this is likely to create additional burden on the side.
Karachi Kings are a more balanced side both in terms of their batting as well as bowling and this would make them the favourites to win this game.
