  • Dhaka Platoon has won seven out of its ten matches and is in excellent form.
  • The presence of two international Pakistani all-rounders Shahid Afridi and Shadab Khan makes Dhaka Platoon a very well-balanced side.
  • Khulna Tigers are too dependent on Mushfiqur Rahim and Rile Rossouw for their runs.

The 42th match of the Bangladesh Premier League 2019-20 will be played between Dhaka and Khulna Tigers at Dhaka. The middle-half of the Bangladesh Premier League table is getting very crowded as teams try and get into the qualification zone and make the playoffs. This next match is between two teams that are smack in the center of this jostling.

The Platoon also boast of the best run rate, +0.827 among the seven participating teams. There are just a couple of matches left in the group stage of the BPL and the Khulna Tigers have no room for error.

They must win these last two matches and hope that some of the other results go their way as well. Dhaka Platoon is assured of a place in the BPL playoffs and would be eyeing the top spot in these remaining few matches.

Dhaka Platoon have already qualified for the playoffs in the 2019-20 Bangabandhu BPL. Mashrafe Mortaza And Co last time beat the Khulna Tigers by 12 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. Dhaka’s only concerns remains to be finishing in the top two. Another win would take them to the top of the table and put them in a comfortable position as far as playing the Qualifier 1 is concerned.

Tamim Iqbal has 358 runs at 51.14, but he needs to work on his strike-rate of 114.01. Anamul has given the occasional starts and now needs to show consistency. Mahedi Hasan has gotten a couple of fifties and then has started to flounder. With the ball, he has nine wickets at an economy of 6.52.

Asif Ali and Thisara Perera’s role lower down the order will also be important. Dhaka’s batting depth came to the fore last time after Shadab Khan’s cameo. The tweaker also has six wickets at an economy of 6.29. Mashrafe Mortaza got his form back with an excellent spell on Wednesday night.

The Khulna Tigers are slipping into some poor habits as their batsmen continue to throw away opportunities. Perhaps this is the reason why the Khulna Tigers picked Hashim Amla in their side in place of Mohammad Amir.

Mehidy Hasan continues to get chances to open the batting, raising questions about the depth of batting in Bangladesh cricket, while Mushfiqur Rahim remains the best batsman for the Tigers. If Mushfiqur Rahim and Rilee Rossouw do not score runs, we don’t see the Khulna Tigers competing in this match at all. The shift back to Dhaka will help the Khulna Tigers, though, since they enjoy the better batting conditions in Dhaka.

Robbie Frylinck is the new leader of the bowling attack in the absence of Mohammad Amir. Mehidy Hasan, Shaiful Islam, Aamer Yamin, and Aliss Islam were the other bowlers that played the previous match. This is not a bowling line-up that is going to scare the Comilla Warriors.

The team which wins the toss will bowl first as the surface becomes slower as the game progresses. A score of about 160 is going to be considered as par for the surface.

Average first innings score: 148 [In the last 3 games at the venue this season]

Record of batting 1st teams: 2 out of 3 [last 3 matches at this venue]

The weather forecast for Dhaka is quite good for match day. We have been pretty with rain so far in this edition of the tournament and we should be able to continue to get some favorable weather for the remainder of the BPL as well. The pitch at the Shere Bangla Stadium is slow but generally pretty decent for batting. There is going to be some help for spinners like we have seen earlier in the tournament, but nothing too extravagant.

We are sticking with Dhaka Platoon in this match as well. They are not under any pressure to win and can play in a relaxed manner. The presence of the Pakistani all-rounders in their playing eleven makes them very strong and we think they are going to be able to inflict another heavy defeat on the Khulna Tigers. Tamim Iqbal and Wahab Riaz will be the key players to watch out for.
