- Cape Cobras are playing at home and they have a very good record at this venue which puts them ahead
- Cape Cobras’ Zubayr Hamza is in top form with the bat with 200 plus runs in three games and can win it for his side
- Titans’ top order has been inconsistent so far and they will face challenge on the Cape Town track
We have already seen some interesting games in the Momentum Cup and the next one between the Cape Cobras and Titans would be a very important one for both the sides. Both the teams are coming into the game after having won their last matches and would be full of confidence. The Cobras would look to move up on the points table with a win in the game while the Titans need to win this one having already started with two losses.
Both the sides are packed with good hitters of the ball. The hosts haven’t had the best run with the ball so far in the season and this is one area they will look to improve on. For the Titans the inconsistency of their top order has been an area of concern. The stakes are high for both the sides and we expect this one to be an interesting game.
Dane Piedt would be a relieved man to have won the last game against the Dolphins by 5 runs under the DLS method. Despite having put up a score of 320 on the board they got a scare due to poor bowling efforts. Piedt would want his side to make good use of the home conditions in the next game. Their bowlers will need to show better discipline after poor efforts in two consecutive games.
Pieter Malan and Hanno Kotze will have to provide a good start to the side. The latter hasn’t done well so far in the season. Zubayr Hamza’s hundred in the last game would give him lot of confidence. Jason Smith, George Linde and Aviwe Mgijima also look in good form in the middle overs. Their batting unit has looked very strong with the top order delivering in most games.
It is in the bowling department that the side will have to make major improvements. They have conceded over 600 runs in the last two games. Thando Ntini has looked good but the side will need good start with the new ball from Nandre Burget and Dane Paterson. George Linde and Piedt have to support them well against the hard hitting batting line-up that Titans have.
Zubayr Hamza, Thando Ntini and Pieter Malan would be the three players to watch out for in the next game.
Expected Playing XI :
Dane Piedt (c), Pieter Malan, Hanno Kotze (wk), Zubayr Hamza, Jason Smith, Aviwe Mgijima, George Linde, Mihlali Mpongwana, Dane Paterson, Nandre Burger, Thando Ntini
It was finally something to celebrate for Heinrich Klaasen’s side. After losses in their first two games the team bounced back to win the last one against the Warriors by 5 wickets. It was a clinical win for the side as they got over the finishing line with more than 10 overs to spare. Klaasen would seek the same kind of show from his players going into the next game.
Their batting delivered in the last game and Tony de Zorzi looked in good form and he will look to provide a good start alongside Henry Davids. In the middle order Theunis de Bruyn coming in adds strength to the side. Dean Elgar, Klaasen and Farhaan Behardien are stroking the ball well. It will be interesting to see how they cope up with pace and bounce on the track at Cape Town.
It was a good show with the ball from Hardus Viljoen and Dayyaan Galiem in the last game as they destroyed the Warriors' top order. They will be excited to bowl on the Cape Town track. Junior Dala’s return is a big plus for the side. They will need good support from Alfred Mothoa and Imran Manack in the middle overs as both of them have had a relatively quiet tournament so far.
Tony de Zorzi, Theunis de Bruyn and Junior Dala would be the three players to watch out for during the game.
Expected Playing XI :
Heinrich Klaasen (c & wk), Henry Davids, Tony de Zorzi, Theunis de Bruyn, Dean Elgar, Farhaan Behardien, Dayyaan Galiem, Hardus Viljoen, Junior Dala, Imran Manack, Alfred Mothoa
It will be the first game of the season at this venue and we expect early support for the bowlers. There won’t be much on the surface though as the ball would come onto the bat nicely allowing stroke making. With good weather forecast for the side we expect the side winning the toss to bat first on this surface.
PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS
Newlands, Cape Town has always been a sporting wicket. Fast bowlers do get their early bargain from the surface but the true nature of the track allows the batsmen to commit themselves to the front foot. It is the end of the season and the pitch has gone slightly slower so batsmen will have it easy here. We expect it to be a high scoring contest.
The weather conditions would be perfect during the game. The skies would be clear and the temperature is expected to touch maximum 27℃. The conditions would be windy during the game and we expect humidity of 66% humidity and 10% precipitation during the day.
The build-up to this game is nice and none of the sides would start as outright favourites to win this encounter. The Cape Cobras have a slightly stronger batting line-up and hence we expect them to start nose ahead of the Titans.
The problem for the Cobras has been the form of their bowlers who haven’t really had a good game so far. This is one of the weaknesses that the Titans would look to exploit with their batsmen having had a good show in the last game.
But we still consider the Cobras to be slightly ahead of the Titans with better knowledge of the conditions. They have had a good run at home and with the wicket likely to offer some assistance to the bowlers they look the side to put money on at the moment.
